World Obesity Day - Outreach Event

To celebrate this year’s World Obesity Day, dietetic students from the University of Malta teamed up with the Nutrition and Dietetics department at Mater Dei Hospital for an outreach event. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about obesity and the factors contributing to its increase. Throughout the event, we provided BMI checks and shared valuable information on maintaining a balanced diet. Leaflets and recipe books from the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate were distributed to help individuals make informed and healthier food choices.

As part of our efforts, we also designed small flashcards to calculate BMI using logos provided by World Obesity. This interactive approach allowed us to engage with attendees in a more hands-on manner. The event focused on education, support, and community involvement, encouraging people to adopt healthier dietary habits. A dedicated stand was set up, displaying informative materials, recipes, and posters from the World Obesity Day 2025 campaign toolkit. Many people showed enthusiasm, stopping by to ask questions and participate in discussions on obesity management and lifestyle improvements. These conversations highlighted the importance of passing on nutritional knowledge across generations, as current systems may not be effectively addressing obesity prevention.

Being part of this event was a fulfilling experience. Knowing that our efforts may have helped even one person rethink their food choices and lifestyle was truly rewarding. This initiative reinforced the importance of awareness campaigns in inspiring positive change and empowering individuals to take charge of their health. Events like these play a crucial role in promoting a healthier future for our communities.
